Whether it's a weekend getaway, a week-long work trip, or a two-week getaway, don't forget these basic essentials.
CONVERTIBLE UNIVERSAL CHARGER
I strongly suggest investing in one quality universal charger that works for any and all countries.
TRAVEL BACKPACK
I swear by my Nomatic 30L travel pack, but tehre are plenty cheaper ones on the market; finding a good travel backpack that makes the most of the under-seat space will buy you a ton of packing space.
HEADPHONES
I always bring several pairs; one specifically with an aux cable for the plane and others (bluetooth) for my phone.
CROSS BODY / PACK
For the ladies, I suggest a small crossbody to keep your must-have items (passport, credit cards, etc.) right at your side at all times; yes, this may put you over the bag limit, but if it's a small crossbody it should be able to fit in your travel backpack if necessary to get on the plane. After that- you can carry it freely. For the gentlemen- a fanny pack / "street bag" I suppose is the hipper term might serve the same purpose.
TRAVEL NETWORK
An international data plan isn't a "packable" item per se but I strongly suggest investing in one before you travel; wifi may not be as readily available as you might think and it could save you in a bind. I use T-Mobile's unlimited data plan and find it to be one of the most affordable plans to date at $50/month for the heavy-duty travelers or $5 a day.
