Honeymoon Beach Destinations, Ranked:

With all the options available, how do you choose where to celebrate your new love?

If you've decided on a beach destination honeymoon (as opposed to a safari, hike, or otherwise), you've probably heard some familiar names. French Polynesia, Puerto Vallarta, Tulum, Maldives, Bali, Koh Samui, Maui, Honolulu, the Bahamas.

How do you decide what the best honeymoon is for you?

Not all beaches are the same. In fact, all of the locales described above are markedly different; not just in terms of beaches but in terms of vibe, variety of activities, geographic variety, etc.

So, here are my recommendations:

FOR THE BEACH BUM: If you're a "lie on the beach and read a book" kind of person

Tulum, Puerto Vallarta, Maui:

-For Americans, these locales are not as far flung; as such they're probably the most accessible and affordable honeymoon destinations.

FURTHER FLUNG: You're planning a 2 week getaway and want there to be a mix of beach, culture, and other activities, Bali/Indonesia, Koh Samui/Thailand, Turks & Caicos/the Bahamas.

-These locales are a bit more accessible; they may be further away, yes, but generally aren't *so* remote and have enough to do to keep you moving, busy, and interested for a longer period of time.

FURTHEST FLUNG: You're willing to deal with a stopover/indirect flight, you want to venture to a locale that hasn't been *quite* so overdone:

French Polynesia, Maldives, Vietnam: it'd be a waste to spend your whole holiday on *just* the beach. As a rule of thumb, the harder a place is to access, the higher the prices will be. The beach is beautiful and the resorts are nice indeed, but if you're just looking for a beach + fancy resort, Mexico, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic are more affordable options. However, if you're into diving or are interested in actually discovering more about the Maldivian way of life (or might be interested in visiting Sri Lanka or the nearby locales), it may be worth the incredible flight time.
